Seminar for chiefs of competition in Planica

Seminar for chiefs of competition in Planica

Just before the Bauhaus FIS Ski Jumping World Cup Final last weekend, a seminar for the Ski Jumping chiefs of competition was held in Planica (SLO) with a focus on the tasks of the jury and hill preparation. 35 representatives of Organizing Committees from Austria, Finland, Germany, Italy, Poland, Russia and Slovenia accepted the invitation.

Friday's program focused on increasing the knowledge concerning the International Competition Rules (ICR), tasks of a chief of competition, his role in the jury and special situations requiring jury decisions. The meteorologist of the OC Planica explained to the participants the basics of forecasting and influences of the weather.
Saturday and Sunday were dedicated to practical work, preparation of the inrun track, handling of different tools including shovels, brooms, rakes, blowers and the chainsaw. The preparation of the landing area and outrun were demonstrated. The use of different kinds of "snow hardeners" with various methods was monitored in previously defined areas over two days.

Ueli Forrer, Chairman of the FIS Sub-Committee for Officials, Rules and Control, was satisfied with the seminar. "The practical part of the seminar was very well organized by the OC Planica led by Jelko Gross with all officials of the OC who cooperated with us to demonstrate their work. On behalf of all participants and FIS I want to thank the OC for their work and openness", said Forrer.

"There was an intensive exchange of experiences among the participants and everyone was very satisfied with the seminar. From my point of view, also because of the experiences now, it would be important to further educate chiefs of competition at all levels. They are members of the jury and have to be well informed about the ICR and their tasks," Forrer added.
