After seven weeks of the FIS World Ski Championships 2011 in the Olympic disciplines, the winter's highlight events concluded in Oslo (NOR) with the Nordic events. Starting with the FIS Snowboard World Championships in Barcelona and La Molina (SPA) in January, this winter has seen one highlight after another. After Deer Valley (USA) staged great FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships in early February, the busy calendar continued with excellent Alpine World Ski Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GER) and unforgettable FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in the mecca of Nordic Skiing, Norway, which has now set the bar extremely high for future organizers to try to match.

The most medals in 2011 were won by Austria for the second time after 2009, which proudly heads the overall ranking with 24 medals, of which thirteen were gold, six silver and five bronze. In second place, Norway, the 2007 table leader, boasts a total of 22 medals (10/6/6) whilst Canada ranks 3rd with 20 medals (10/6/4), especially thanks to its strong showing in Deer Valley with 16 medals. France is in 4th place, with a total of nine medals of which four gold, followed by Australia in 5th with 5 medals 4 of which were gold and the USA in 6th with 13 medals (3/6/4).
