Worldloppet convenes in St Moritz
The Worldloppet association that brings together the 15 most important popular Cross-Country Skiing races on four continents held its annual General Assembly in St Moritz from 16th-19th June. The topics included enhanced cooperation among the Organizers and future development of the Worldloppet series.
The participants agreed that Worldloppet must tackle the current challenges for popular skiing with a new common strategy in order to increase importance of Worldloppet races as well as the FIS Marathon Cup. They especially agreed that challenges such as the new media must be actively addressed to benefit from synergies of their members. The goal of Worldloppet is to become an umbrella organization for popular Cross-Country Skiing.
The participants also discussed the currently challenging situation between the two main series, the FIS Marathon Cup and the Ski Classics in Worldloppet as five out of the six Ski Classics also belong to the FIS Marathon Cup. Since the dual classification leads to marketing problems and confusion, Worldloppet shall seek to merge the series into one to provide a more attractive solution for the market.
Angello Corradini was unanimously confirmed as Secretary General to continue his tenure in office that began in 2004. Corradini also leads the Organizing Committee for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships Val di Fiemme 2013.
