Falun 2015 moving to detailed planning phase
The third coordination group meeting for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2015 in Falun (SWE) took place on 15-16th September. The representatives of the FIS, the rights holder European Broadcasting Union and its marketing partner Tridem Sports met with the team from the Organizing Committee, the Swedish Ski Association, the city of Falun and SVT, the Swedish Television.
Thanks to an early start of the work immediately following the election in June 2010, the team from Falun 2015 has been able to gather a lot of information from the organizers in Oslo 2011 during the past winter and spring, as well as establishing strong contact with the 2013 organizers in Val di Fiemme which will be key for highly efficient knowledge transfer. Key achievements in the first 15 months of work also include establishing the construction plan for the Lugnet stadium and, in particular, for the modernization of the jumping hills of all sizes. The construction concept will be confirmed during October 2011, with works set to begin in March 2012 so that the first test events can be held already in January 2013.
The Swedish Ski Association is aiming to field a national team in the Ski Jumping events and has doubled the investment in the team's development.
The 2012/2013 season will be the first important testing opportunity for the organizing committee, besides the FIS Cross-Country World Cup Finals that are held in Stockholm and Falun every year. From 2013 regular Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined competitions are scheduled at different levels both in summer and winter, including the ladies' Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined World Cup events.
"The Falun 2015 team started immediately after the election in June 2010 and has spent most of the past 12 months on fact-finding and planning. Now is the time to grow the team as the detailed planning work commences and decisions are made. We were pleased to see athe plan in place for the venue construction," commented Sarah Lewis. "The host broadcaster Swedish Television presented exciting plans that will showcase the Championships using the latest technical innovations.
