Ladies Jumping: Sarah Hendrickson grows lead

Ladies Jumping: Sarah Hendrickson grows lead

The FIS Ski Jumping World Cup Ladies presented by Viessmann saw two competitions take place in Ljubno (SLO) last weekend and witnessed the same two athletes leading the way in both events. World Cup rankings leader Sarah Hendrickson (USA) won twice while setting a sensational new hill record with 95 m. "My jumps were good, I'm very satisfied", she said later. "At the beginning of the season I didn't think that I would be that strong, but today might have been an important step in the fight for the overall World Cup title."

Her two victories might have been especially important because her closest challenger Daniela Iraschko (AUT) is now 211 points behind in the season ranking - with just four more competitions left.

Behind Hendrickson, Japan's Sara Takanashi claimed second place twice. In typical Japanese manner, she remained modest. "I'm very satisfied with my second place. Sarah Hendrickson deserved the victory with her record jump."

Daniela Iraschko now plans to compete in the Continental Cup in Liberec (CZE) on the upcoming weekend. Sarah Hendrickson has not decided yet whether she will also take part there and she will train in Predazzo (ITA) before competing at the Junior World Championships in Erzurum (TUR). The overall World Cup might be decided on 3rd March when two competitions will take place in Zao (JPN). If Hendrickson still has a lead of 200 points or more that evening, then the trophy for the ladies' first overall World Cup title will go to Park City, Utah.
