New Ski Jumping era dawns on Russia
Almost simultaneously, two new Ski Jumping facilities were opened in Russia last weekend. On one hand, the new Olympic large hill built for the Sochi 2014 Games saw its inaugural competition in Krasnaya Polyana, on the other hand, the new Ski Jumping Center in Tschaikowsky was opened.
The first competition on the HS 140 hill in the Ski Jumping Center Russki Gorky was held on 18th February in the presence of the Sports Minister of the Russian Federation Yury Nagornykh and the President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee Dmitry Chernyshenko. The entire center is planned to be complete in December 2012. Work still continues on the K95 hill, on the jumping judges‘ tower and the Cross-Country courses for Nordic Combined, which should already be finished by July.
In Tschaikowsky, in the region of Perm, three hills - K125, K95 and K65 - are now ready for use after a two-year construction period. The total investment in the new winter sport complex in development since 2009 amounts to 110 million Euros and includes the hills, trails, a biathlon range and a hotel.
The first official competitions on the ‘Snezhinka‘ hills will take place in March 2012 when the Russian Nationals are to be held whilst the first international competitions are planned in September 2012 when the FIS Grand Prix summer series visits the site. The entire facility should be finished in September 2012 and then include hills from K125, K95, K65, K45 to K20.
