Ernst Hinterseer celebrates 80th birthday

Ernst Hinterseer celebrates 80th birthday

On February 27th 2012, Austria's Ernst Hinterseer turned 80. Hinterseer was member of the Austrian national team from 1954 until 1960.

The winner from Wengen and Kitzbühel had the biggest success of his career in 1960 at the Winter Olympic Games at Squaw Valley. Due to a heavy fall and broken leg in the 1957/58 season Hinterseer changed from speed to technical events and at the Olympic Games in 1960 he claimed bronze medal in giant slalom. Three days later he crowned his career with the gold medal in slalom ahead of his compatriot Mathias Leitner and Frenchman Charles Bonzon.

Ernst Hinterseer ended his rich sporting career in 1967 and then moved to coaching. Initially he worked with his eldest son, Hans, then from 1972 to 1974 he worked as a technique coach for the Austrian team and from 1974 to 1976 he cooperated with the German team, DSV.
