Alpine European Cup to get underway in Levi and Vemdalen

Alpine European Cup to get underway in Levi and Vemdalen

The FIS European Cup 2012/13 season in Alpine Skiing is getting underway in Finland’s Levi and Sweden’s Vemdalen this week, providing especially the younger athletes with an opportunity to get their competition season off early.

After the initially planned season start for the men at Reiteralm (AUT) was postponed due to lack of snow, Levi will be the first stop on the men’s tour staging a pair of giant slalom and slalom races on 21st-22nd and 24th-25th November. The ladies will embark on their season in slalom competitions in Vemdalen on 26th-27th November.

The Alpine Intercontinental Cups play a significant role as a stepping stone into the FIS Alpine World Cup. Overall winners, or best placed competitor(s) from the respective continents, are personally qualified to compete in World Cup races in the event concerned for the season following their victory (except at the World Cup Finals).

Both the ladies and men’s 2012/13 calendars comprise a total of 80 races of which five are night slaloms. All races will be overseen by the highly experienced FIS Alpine Continental Cup Coordinators Markus Waldner and Janez Flere, who together have 28 seasons in their positions under their belts (Waldner 17, Flere 11).
