Grand Prix in Copper Mt. opens snowboard year 2013

Grand Prix in Copper Mt. opens snowboard year 2013

In a few days, the freestyle snowboarders open their competition year 2013. From 9th to 12th January, the season's first FIS Snowboard World Cup slopestyle event (9th and 11th January) and second halfpipe contest (10th and 12th January) are scheduled within the Sprint US Grand Prix Tour.

The competition weekend, which features the last two freestyle snowboarding World Cups prior to the 10th FIS Snowboard World Championships in Quebec and Stoneham (CAN), is the first of two stops on the US tour that is part of the Olympic qualification process for the first time as a FIS event.

In addition, the two contests will also count for the World Snowboard Tour. As a consequence, riders can win both, FIS World Cup points and points counting for the World Snowboarding point list.

It comes as no surprise hence that the local Organisers are expecting one of the biggest and deepest starting fields in World Cup history, especially as the FIS point level for FIS World Cup has been reduced for the first two halfpipe and slopestyle World Cup competitions of the current season.
