100 events confirmed for World Snow Day

Exactly 60 days before the first edition of the FIS World Snow Day the impressive milestone of 100 registered events was passed on 23rd November 2012. The 100th event to register was by the Winter Games Federation of India which actually signed up with three events in Gulmarg, Manali and Auli and thereby became the 26th country to join the global celebration of snow on 22nd January 2012. Another recent country to join is China where two events are confirmed, in Harbin and in Beidahu.

The activities to take place on the inaugural World Snow Day vary greatly: Innsbruck, Austria will celebrate the final day of 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games, offering a chance for the people of Innsbruck to join the 1,059 athletes aged 14 to 18 from over 70 nations for an unforgettable experience on snow. In Oslo, Norway World Snow Day will coincide with the city's largest event, the Oslo Ski Festival, which attracts participants from all around Norway and an estimated 2,000 children are expected to take part in 2012. Meanwhile, Ontario, Canada will showcase all there is about snow: telemark skiing, guided snowshoe treks, family fun races, snowboard & snowshoe demos, snow graffiti, and snow sculpture competitions. And in Crystal Mountain, USA, the day will be a highlight within its Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month under the motto: "You don't have to know anything about skiing or snowboarding to participate - just bring an open mind and the willingness to have a great time!"

There is still time to join the season's biggest day on snow: the registration deadline for organizers is 15th December 2011. For more information, please visit www.world-snow-day.com or send an email to worldsnowday(at)fisski.com.
