Ĺre, Sweden - Candidate for Alpine Events in 2017

Åre, Sweden last hosted the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in 2007. In May 2011, the Swedish Ski Association together with Åre SLK, World Cup Åre and Swedish Winter Sports Research Centre moved into the new office situated right in the finish area of the annual World Cup competitions.

During the 2011/12 winter season, groups from national teams to clubs and schools have been in the National Arena for training.

For hosting the FIS World Ski Championships, all necessary installations already exist in the alpine competition area. With the 2007 Worlds in Åre, the construction of a new chair lift was completed. A highly technological snow making system is permanent in the arena up to 1240 metres (men's downhill start). In the autumn of 2011, new lighting was installed from the men's giant slalom start with the possibility for night races.

At a FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Åre, all teams, VIPs and guests would be accommodated in the center of the town. The rest of the accredited persons, including representatives of the media, would be hosted within 10 kilometers of centre of Åre.
