FIS Carving Cup 2012 dominated by Colmar Carving Team

FIS Carving Cup 2012 dominated by Colmar Carving Team

The Carving Cup 2012 has been the edition of change with fewer dates in Italy and a more international focus. The season started in Auron (FRA) on 4th-5th February 2012 without the defending champion Thomas Bergamelli (ITA). The skier from Bergamo injured his knee, causing the Colmar Carving Team to lose its strongest skier but still winning the team championship at the end of a long contention against Carving Team Italy.

After the French event, the Carving caravan continued on to Cerkno (SLO). The Slovenian nation shares a passion for skiing in every form and discipline. In the succeeding FIS Carving Cup European Challenge in Passo Mendola (ITA), Gloria Tomat and Giancarlo Bergamelli won the slalom carving. Numerous young people in the top ten confirmed how the Carving Cup can provide a second chance for athletes after alpine ski racing. In the speed race of the European Challenge, Carving Team Italy athletes dominated; Tomat took a double victory and Veluscek took a revenge beating De Florian and Bergamelli.

The season finished in Tarvisio (ITA) on the first weekend of March 2012 with a spectacular speed carving night event and a slalom race on the following day. While Stefania Burba won the ladies’ World Cup, Giancarlo Bergamelli dominated the men’s results. The two athletes brought Colmar Carving Team to the top of the Team Overall Standing.
