WADA prepares first Code draft and updates signatories on compliance

FIS President Gian Franco Kasper participated in the meetings of the WADA Executive and Foundation Boards in Montreal last week. During its 18th May meeting, the World-Anti Doping Agency´s Foundation Board was advised of the progress made with the first draft of the updated WADA Code, while members also approved the compliance status of a further 38 signatories.

In the process of the two-year Code Review, 91 official submissions have allowed the drafting team to complete a first draft by 1st June 2012. After a second consultation phase, the drafting team will report again at the WADA Executive Committee and Foundation Board meetings in November 2012. December 2012 marks the start of the third phase, while a final draft of the Code will be tabled for approval at WADA’s World Conference on Doping in Sport in Johannesburg in November 2013.

In addition, significant progress has been made in the field of Code Compliance. By providing continued assistance to signatories in reaching compliance with the required standards in terms of anti-doping rules and anti-doping programs, 38 signatories have been approved.

Further topics of the meeting centered around the status of data protection in Europe as well as developments with Regional Anti-Doping Organizations.
