Passing of Angelo Vergani and Jean-Luc Magnet

Passing of Angelo Vergani and Jean-Luc Magnet

Angelo Vergani, the longest serving Secretary General of the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) and a truly dedicated sports official has passed away on 20th November at the age of 80 years. Born in 1932 in Lentate sul Seveso, (Brianza), he retired from FISI two years ago after a record of 62 years of service.

Vergani became the Secretary General of FISI in 1968 under President Fabio Conci and saw the birth of Ski Pool Italia, as well as the times of ski stars such as Gustavo Thoeni, Alberto Tomba and Deborah Compagnoni. He remained in that role until 1989 when he reached retirement age, but continued his collaboration with FISI until 2010, as an expert especially in international relations. Vergani was also awarded the order of “Cavaliere della Repubblica”. As one of the leading figures of FISI over decades, Angelo Vergani will be sorely missed.

In addition, the French Ski Association has announced the passing of Jean-Luc Magnet (FRA) at the young age of 53. Magnet was a member of the FIS Grass Skiing Committee and Chairman of the Grass Skiing Committee of the French Ski Association. He was actively involved in the promotion and development of the sport, not only in his home country but also on a worldwide level and will be warmly remembered by the international ski family.

FIS wishes to express its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Angelo Vergani and Jean-Luc Magnet.
