Flisar and Smith take Telluride, Kingsbury and Mcphie win moguls opener in Ruka

Flisar and Smith take Telluride, Kingsbury and Mcphie win moguls opener in Ruka

Under a brilliant blue Colorado sky, the best ski cross racers in the world put on a remarkable show on 13th December in Telluride. After incredibly tight heats, stunning passing, and several photo finishes, Filip Flisar (SLO) and Fanny Smith (SUI) found themselves on top of the podium.

Remarkably Fanny Smith took her 2nd season victory in two races after almost a year off due to reconstructive knee surgery, solidifying her status as the current 'girl-to-beat' on the ladies ski cross circuit.

The next ski cross event is held in Val Thorens (FRA) on 19th December.

Kingsbury and McPhie win moguls opener in Ruka

On 15th December, Mikael Kingsbury kicked off the 2012/13 World Cup moguls season much the same way he ended his record-tying 2011/12 season: with a win in the dual moguls at Ruka (FIN). On the ladies' side, American Heather McPhie notched the second win of her career.
Conditions were chilly and windy as competitors went head-to-head under the lights of the Finnish resort located just below the Arctic Circle.
Kingsbury, overcame his team mate Alexandre Bilodeau the 2010 Olympic Champion and reigning world champion, who finished second. American Jeremy Cota took third.

In the ladies' event, Mcphie won the event for the USA and relegated young Canadian Justine Dufour-Lapointe to second place. Famed Japanese veteran and 2009 world champion in both dual and single moguls Aiko Uemura marked her return to competition by ranking third.

The next event in dual-moguls will be staged on 22nd December in Kreischberg (AUT).
