Oslo 2011 presents mascots, stages name competition The organizing committee of Oslo 2011 presented its mascots last week, two cute snow characters that seek to create excitement and joy of winter in connection with FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo. Oslo 2011 also asked the Norwegian public to help with name suggestions. "We wanted to create mascots that look cute and nice while embodying our graphical profile. With their simple yet expressive line I think we have managed that," said Åsne Havnelid, CEO of Oslo 2011. The characters are made of snow. The girl is energetic, eager, and likes physical challenges. Her best friend is physically strong, but more reserved, careful, and shy. A "snowman" was the starting point given to illustrator Trond Vestengen when he started work on creating the mascots last autumn. Vestengen was given the task after winning a design competition. "Our vision is to delight and spread winter joy. We therefore wanted snow to be one of the elements. And everyone, regardless of which skiing nation they are from, has a relationship to playing in snow, throwing snowballs, and building snowmen," added Havnelid. By now, the Naming Jury has received many name suggestions. The name contest has been concluded and the jury will begin considering the proposals. The winning names will be announced around mid-November. The mascots will appear "live" during various events in the coming months and in the arena during the championships. Their first opportunity to appear "live" will be at the Beitosprint event on 12th-14th November. And they can actually ski! In addition the mascots will be used in some of the Oslo 2011 merchandising products. For more information visit www.oslo2011.no Contributed by Oslo 2011 |
