Fruitful Leaders' Seminar in Bratislava The 9th FIS Leaders' Seminar was carried out in Bratislava (SUI) on 29th-31st October. This year's seminar focused on "How to Upgrade a National Ski Association". A great inclusion on the program were the case study presentations by six of the participating nations on the work they are doing to optimize and enhance their operations. These included FIS Council Member Dean Gosper representing AUS, Leandro Ribela from Brazil, Andreas Wenzel from Liechtenstein, Dimitrije Lazarovski from Serbia, Petra Kurcabova from host nation Slovakia, Julia Syparenko from Ukraine and Igor Zhukov from Kazahkstan. Among the participants from 30 nations, Dr Klara Kaszo, President of the Hungarian Ski Association commented, "We really enjoyed and will try to use some of the ideas we discovered during the presentations. I think that this seminar is going through a good development and can offer a real possibility for the participants to leverage the experience of the other nations." "As always the Leaders Seminar was very good, informative and well organized," added Anne O'Connor, Secretary General of the Irish Ski Association, whilst Dean Gosper stated: "The Leaders' Seminar in Bratislava was a great success. National Associations of different sizes and stages of development, from all quarters of the world, shared their experiences and approaches. It was not surprising to see how universal were the common challenges of establishing local relevance, securing funding and creating pathways for young athletes. It was also motivating to see what can be achieved with high energy and creativity." The seminar presentations are available for download from the FIS Wiki site here. |
