5th big air in Stockholm

5th big air in Stockholm

On this coming Saturday, the Stadium Winter Jam in Stockholm will celebrate a small jubilee. It's the fifth consecutive time that the big air show in the Stockholm Olympic Stadium from 1912 will take place. The competition in the Swedish capital is the second ramp contest of the 2011 LG Snowboard FIS World Cup season and about 70 riders plan to showcase their skills.

As every year, the event features a top international rider field including anybody who is anybody. Besides the winner of the big air season's opener in London, Slovenia's Marko Grilc, who will defend his World Cup leadership in Stockholm, 2010 Olympic halfpipe runner-up Peetu Piiroinen, 2003 world champion Risto Mattila and Janne Korpi lead the Finnish rippers who will try to leave their stamp on the Stadium Winter Jam as they did in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

In addition, Norway's rising stars in the freestyle sky, Gjermund Braaten who triumphed at the Freestyle.ch this year as well as Staale Sandbech, who only got beaten by Marko Grilc in London, are some fresh talents with good chances for a top-3 result. In addition, Seppe Smits is also part of the show. The Belgian, who rounded out the season's first big air podium as third, is ready to build on his performance. A total of twelve Swedish riders will also enter the competition to show their best.
