Suzuki leads SAJ towards Sochi 2014

Suzuki leads SAJ towards Sochi 2014

At the Autumn General Assembly of the Ski Association of Japan held in Tokyo, Mr. Suzuki Yoichi was elected the Association's president. He received a vast majority of the 71 votes.

A politician representing the Akita prefectural, Mr Suzuki serves as Chairman of its prefectural assembly and is an enthusiastic skier who skis more than 200 days a year. He is a well-known businessman, as former President of HANAOKA Construction Co., Ltd.

"Japan could not win a medal in ski and snowboard sports at last two Olympic Winter Games. It gives us a mission to win an Olympic medal at all cost at Sochi. On the road to Sochi, we must strive for successful results at World Championships and work towards the Games. Due to the unpleasant economic situation, we have to consider drastic cuts and focus on some disciplines. From the long-term perspective, we must reverse the decline of number of skiers in Japan.

There are many difficulties ahead of us. But, I do love ski sports more than anybody and believe other skiers in Japan also love the sport as much as me. I trust everyone can get together and cooperate to make a breakthrough," said Mr. Suzuki following his election.

A new secretary general was elected in the first Council meeting under the new president. Koichiro Okayama, a former deputy secretary general was elected as secretary general, completing the new Ski Association of Japan management team.
