Alpine Continental Cups underway Two of the five Continental Cup series in Alpine Skiing opened last weekend. The men's European Cup began with a pair of GS races in Trysil (NOR) whilst the NorAm Cup held its opening races in Loveland, Colorado with a pair of slaloms for both ladies and men, followed by two GS races for both genders in Aspen. Due to a car accident involving four of the Swiss team's coaches early this morning in Are (SWE) which has left two of them seriously injured, the EC slalom race scheduled for Wednesday was cancelled. The hearts of the entire ski family are with the injured and their families. The ladies European Cup will launch racing action in Kvitfjell (NOR) with a three-race combination (GS, SG, SC) from Friday. After a slalom on Thursday in Are, the men will be travelling to Reiteralm (AUT) where the season opening speed races will now be held from 9th December, originally scheduled for mid-November. A true milestone on this season's European Cup calendar are the first official test events for the Olympic Winter Games Sochi 2014. Both the ladies' and men's circuits will be visiting the Black Sea resort for two weekends of speed racing in February 2011; the competition schedule features a downhill and super-G race for each gender. The men's races are scheduled on 17th-18th February whilst the ladies will compete on 25th-26th February. Photo: Agence Zoom |
