FIS MEDIA INFO: Both super-Gs to be held on TuesdayÅre, February 5, 2007/ -- Due to adverse weather conditions, the men's super-G has been postponed to start on Tuesday, 6th February, at 10:00 CET. The ladies' super-G will be held as scheduled at 12:30 CET. “An incredible amount of work was done overnight on the courses to clean them of snow for today's race – there were piles of wind-shifted snow of up to 4 m high in places. Despite these efforts, we had no chance but had to postpone the race due to poor visibility and the wind that was blowing the snow around. While we still have much work to clean the nets, given the current weather forecast we are optimistic about the races tomorrow,” said Guenther Hujara, FIS Chief Race Director for the men. “While this was the third day in a row with a race postponement, there is no reason to panic. Of course, we would like to hold a minimum of one race tomorrow but surely prefer to hold a regular and safe race rather than a race at any cost. If we cannot, we will have to continue with an altered program. Compared with our experiences at past FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Morioka (JPN) in 1993 and Schladming (AUT) in 1982, this is not a crisis for us!” added FIS President Gian Franco Kasper. The men's competition will be held on the super-G course set for today, starting from the reserve start position at Lillbranten. Work continues to secure the ladies' start from the original start position. The wind is expected to further decrease and the skies clear up by Tuesday afternoon while the precipitation should end during the night as the temperatures continue to fall. |
