FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships at Madonna di Campiglio (ITA) rescheduled for early MarchOberhofen, January 8th, 2007 – The International Ski Federation (FIS) and the local organizing committee at Madonna di Campiglio (ITA) together with the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) and regional authorities have agreed to postpone the FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships to 5th – 11th March 2007. The event was originally scheduled to be held on 22nd – 27th January, 2007 and the new dates in March now means the event follows immediately after the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Sapporo (JPN). Due to unseasonably warm weather, snow-making at Madonna di Campiglio (ITA) has only been possible during eight nights in the past two months and as a result, there is insufficient snow to prepare the Freestyle Skiing competition venues according to the Freestyle course specifications. While slopes are open for recreational skiing in the resort, the planned moguls and aerials venues (on the Miramonti slalom slope) as well as the half pipe and ski cross finish areas (on the FIS3Tre slope) are all situated close to the town center for spectator and access reasons, requiring substantial amounts of snow for proper preparation. “Despite great efforts by the Madonna 2007 organizing committee led by President Olindo Cozzio, FISI and the regional government in Trentino, we had no choice but to look for new dates. We thank the organizers for their flexibility and are very pleased to be able to confirm the new dates for the 2007 FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships on 5th – 11th March, 2007,” said FIS President Gian Franco Kasper. The competition program will remain the same as the original program and the schedule will be published shortly on the FIS and Organizing Committee's websites. |
