FIS MEDIA INFO: Nine applications for candidacy for 2014/2015 FIS World Championships Oberhofen, 5th May, 2009/ -- FIS is pleased to announce the receipt of nine applications for candidacy for the organization of FIS World Championships in 2014 and 2015. By the May 1st 2009 deadline, FIS received applications for candidacy from nine applicants, divided as follows: • One application for the 2014 FIS Ski Flying World Championships submitted by Harrachov (CZE) "I am delighted to see that despite the current economical climate we have received applications as candidates for the 2014/2015 FIS World Championships in all disciplines. For us this underlines the continuing strength of our flagship events and their appeal to global audiences," commented FIS President Gian Franco Kasper. Election on 3rd June 2010 The FIS Council will elect the organizers of the 2014/2015 FIS World Championships during the 2010 Congress week in Antalya (TUR) on 3rd June 2010. Prior to that, each Candidate Applicant, together with its National Ski Association, will prepare its detailed concept based on a specific FIS Questionnaire, containing details including the areas of sports organization, accommodation, transportation, logistics, security, legal aspects, environment, media, communications, marketing, ceremonies as well as the festival by 1st September 2009. The FIS Inspection Group members will review the project in detail together with the Candidate Applicant during this phase and meet with them during the FIS Technical Committee Meetings (21st - 23rd September). Thereafter the Candidate Applicant will finalize its documentation relating to the concept for the project. Until 31st October 2009 (respectively the FIS Council Meeting thereafter in autumn 2009), the FIS Council has the veto right to decide if a candidacy shall be accepted or not. Similarly, the Applicant can decide whether or not to proceed as a Candidate. During the 47th International Ski Congress week in Antalya (TUR) each Candidate will have a chance to make a final presentation to the FIS Council as well as the respective Technical Committees. They will also be able to present their candidatures to the extended FIS family and discuss their plans at special exhibition stands at the 2010 FIS Congress venue. Reduced registration fee for repeat applications The non-refundable registration fees are used to finance the FIS Aid & Promotion program for developing ski nations. For the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, the registration fee for each candidature is CHF 400'000 and 200 training days, for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, CHF 150'000 and 200 training days. For the Freestyle and Snowboard events, the registration fee is set at CHF 100'000 and 200 training days (a combined application fee for Freestyle and Snowboard events is CHF 175'000), and no training days are required by applications for the organization of FIS Ski Flying World Championships. For a second consecutive candidature, candidates are entitled to a 25 % reduction in the registration fee and, for the third and further consecutive candidacies, a 50 % reduction is granted. The training days are typically valued at a theoretical rate of CHF 100/day. About FIS Founded in 1924 during the first Olympic Games in Chamonix, France, the International Ski Federation (FIS) aims to promote the sport of skiing and snowboarding and directs the development of all ski and snowboarding activities world-wide. It administers the Olympic disciplines of Alpine Skiing, Cross-Country Skiing, Ski Jumping, Nordic Combined, Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding, including setting the international competition rules. With the help of its 110 member nations (one currently suspended), FIS stages more than 6'000 ski and snowboard competitions annually. FIS also makes recommendations for recreational skiing and snowboarding in the interest of all and promotes play in the snow as a healthy leisure activity for children and the youth.
