FIS Media Info: First Audi FIS Ski World Cup City Event in Munich on 2nd January 2011

December 20, 2010//- The first Audi FIS Ski World Cup City Event will be staged on 2nd January 2011 in the Olympic Park in Munich (GER). The parallel slalom competition at the Olympic Mountain will see the world's best racers fight for overall World Cup points on a 200 metre long slope with approximately 20 gates, ending at the bottom of the upper Olympic Lake.

"With the recent snowfall and cold temperatures as well as a positive weather forecast for the next days, we can expect good conditions at the Olympic Mountain on 2nd January," said Günter Hujara, FIS Chief Race Director for the men's World Cup.

"There has been great interest by the TV broadcasters and thousands of tickets have already been sold. The signs are very promising and we look forward to a great event with new elements such as special lighting and music, all designed to create a fantastic show with all the top stars of today's Alpine ski racing."

"I'm impressed by the amount of snow the organizers have been able to produce. We will next spread out the big pile of snow. The currently milder temperatures and possibly even some rain are creating optimal conditions making the snow wetter. When it gets colder, we will have a nice and hard base. We will then wait for a dry window to inject the course," elaborated Hans Pieren, FIS Race Director for the men's technical events the next steps. "The organizers at the Munich Olympic Park are well-prepared and working in an extremely professional manner."
