Once again perfect conditions in Lake Louise welcomed 61 racers for the first Super G of the season. Matthias Mayer (AUT) showed great confidence and top-level skiing, securing his sixth World Cup victory, the third one in this discipline. Dominik Paris (ITA) finished second and Vincent Kriechmayr (AUT) and Mauro Caviezel (SUI) in joint third.

Mayer had finished four times second in the Canadian venue, but had never managed to win in Lake Louise before today. Mayer celebrates the start of the season and returns to victory after more than a year.

“It’s always special to get a win in the first (Super G) race of the season. I think I made the difference in the second part of the course. I knew there were many strong guys down there, so I tried to push hard and give everything”, said Mayer.

Dominik Paris confirmed his speed skills and good condition, taking once more the second spot, 0.40 seconds behind the Austrian.

Caviezel and Kirechmayr also showed strong performances, cutting both the finish line only 0.09 seconds behind Paris. For the second time in two days, two athletes had to share the third spot of the podium, showing how close it can get!

Matthias Mayer is now leading the overall ranking, with 161 points, just one point ahead of Paris.
