Beijing 2022: Cross-Country site inspection

In February 2022, the worlds winter sport elite will gather for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022. Only a few months before the opening ceremony, a FIS delegation travelled to China for the final inspection of the infrastructure. FIS Cross-Country Race Director Pierre Mignerey and Race Director Assistant Michal Lamplot met up with the responsibles on site at the Cross-Country venue located in the Zhangjiakou area in the Hebei province, 220km northwest from Beijing. The venue itself is called Kuyangshu Nordic Center and sets the stage for all Cross-Country, Nordic Combined, Ski Jumping and Biathlon competitions.

The venue construction started in 2016 and with the final inspection mid-October, the current work of progress on the race courses, overall venue, logistics and schedules were discussed. A final review and homologation inspection has shown that the competition courses and stadium meets the technical requirements and specifications listed in the FIS ICR (International Competition Rules). Test events had been held with National athletes beforehand. A special feature of the course will mark it’s altitude at 1’800m.
