Akzhigit and Kotovskyi shine at the FIS Freestyle Masters in Mettmenstetten

The FIS Freestyle Masters aerials competition went down this past Sunday at the water ramp facility in Mettmenstetten (SUI), with a stacked field of international athletes delivering a great aerial show in front of the enthusiastic crowd and under ideal summer weather conditions.

It was the 25th edition of the iconic freestyle event with over 30 athletes from seven different nations on hand in Mettmenstetten this weekend to impress the fans and the judges with their double and triple flips.

In the women’s competition it was the 2022 Europa Cup winner Marzhan Akzhigit (KAZ), who stepped things up in the super final and upset the top-favourite Laura Peel (AUS), while scoring 102.55 points for her Full-Tuck-Full and earring her career’s second victory.

With Akzhigit on top of the podium, Peel had to settle for the second place on the day with 101.44 points for her Lay double Full-Tuck.

2021 Rookie of the Year Marion Thenault (CAN) finished the competition in third place with 87.42 points for her double Full-Full.

On the men’s side of the competition it was Dmitro Kotovskyi (UKR), who topped the field with a score of 130.83 points after performing his signature Full triple Full-Full.

Second place went to Lewis Irwing (CAN), who finished the event with 128.50 points for his double Full-Full double Full.

Local fans’ favourite Noe Roth (SUI) rounded out the men’s podium in third place with 120.54 points for his Full double Full-Full.

The aerials water ramp action now moves from Switzerland to USA, where the next summer FIS event is slated to take place this upcoming Saturday, August 27 at the Utah Olympic Park in Park City.
