At the initiative of the President of the Haute-Savoie region, Martial Saddier, and the President of the French Ski Federation, Fabian Saguez, all the French medallist at this past 2023 World Championships, as well as all top athletes who distinguished themselves this past winter at the World Cup stage, gather at the Imperial Palace for the annual Chronos d’Or Ceremony.

The Presidents of the Department of Haute-Savoie, the French Ski Federation, the ski equipment manufacturers along with Dauphine Libere and Ski Chrono, invited nearly 400 people, including around a hundred children from various ski clubs to celebrate best French athletes from skiing, snowboarding and biathlon.

At the end of a highly successful season for the French team that included 95 podium, 22 victories and 9 World Cup globes, as well as 12 medals including 6 gold at the World Championships, the “Champion of Champions” trophy, the supreme reward of the Chronos d’Or gala was awarded, ex-aequo, to Perrine Laffont as well as the biathlon athlete Julia Simon.

24-year-old mogul skier Laffont had an outstanding 2022/23 campaign, finishing the season with two World Championships gold medals and two World Cup crystal globes, after coming on top of both dual moguls and overall moguls rankings.

Beside winning the “Champion of Champions” trophy, Laffont was also named the best French female athlete of Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding in 2022/23, with snowboard cross athlete Merlin Surget taking the honours over on the men’s side of things on the strength of his career’s first World Cup victory in Cortina d’Ampezzo back in February.

The 2023 season was also marked by the success of the Alpine Skiing World Championships in Courchevel / Méribel, for which Perrine Pelen and Bernard Fron were awarded an honorary Chrono d’Or.

The Ceremony was also an opportunity to salute the remarkable performances of the French Team in other ski disciplines and a moment of celebration was also reserved for all those athletes who made the decision to hang up their skis, including a halfpipe legend Kevin Rolland.
