On Thursday, 15th of October, the 18th FIS Youth and Children’s Seminar took place with the topic of “Solutions for Integrating Covid-19 Measures”. For the first time in the Youth and Children’s Seminar history the event was opened to the general public through a webinar. The result? 140 attendees from 51 nations took part.
The aim of the webinar was to provide hosts of childrens snow sports events the tools to safely stage events during Covid-19. The Seminar was opened by FIS Development Manager Dimitrije Lazarovski who laid out the basics around Covid-19. FIS Integrity Manager Sarah Fussek took the floor to detail the FIS Covid-19 Prevention Guidelines. Developed together with the FIS Covid-19 Taskforce, the Guidelines sets out steps on how to mitigate the viruses impact.
TheVice Chair of the FIS Medical Committee Dr. Jenny Shute detailed the onsite actions Organisers and participants should take if they decide to stage or participate in kids snow sports events.
Additionally, FIS Ski Jumping Race Director Sandro Pertile provided experiences of implementing Covid-19 measures. These experiences were drawn from the FIS Ski Jumping Summer Grand Prix in Wisla (POL) which was staged in July 2020. Sandro noted that as well as great support from the Organisers the measures were also well received by athletes and participants and allowed the a Ski Jumping event to be executed.
To round out the webinar there was a question and answer session. Despite the diverse backgrounds of participants, many of questions focused on the same topics e.g. maximum number of participants, how can testing be implemented and what to do if a Covid-19 case is identified. All questions were answered and some have been added to the FIS Covid-19 hub. Click here to see the full list. (https://www.fis-ski.com/en/inside-fis/covid-19-hub)
