The FIS Children’s Races Organisers Committee met in Ríčky v Orlickych Horách (CZE) last weekend. The meeting was chaired by new President Hans-Peter Carlson, from Sweden (Ingemar Stenmark Trophy, Taernaby). Thirteen FIS Children’s events were represented.
On the opening night, Ski-Interkriterium Czech representatives Petr Kubašek and Ondrej Kalousek gave an excellent presentation on their event. This competition was first run in 1962 and is arguably the oldest FIS Children’s competition.
The President and Committee paid respects to former President Mauro Detassis (ITA) who passed away shortly after last year’s meeting. Mauro’s family had greatly appreciated a commemorative plaque from FIS.
A presentation from Gaku Hirasawa and Akio Kaerama from the Goldwin Japan Cup then followed. The competition is not a new event but will be run for the first time as a FIS Children’s event in 2020. The organisers were subsequently welcomed as candidate members of the Committee.
Topics addressed at the meeting included the FIS Children’s Races age range, participation figures, calendar coordination, finances, the search for sponsors, and safeguarding policies. The group aspires to having policies and procedures in place for the coming season.
Finally, a proposal from the Chairman to admit Marisa Ruatti (ITA) as an Honorary Member, in view of her long service, was unanimously supported by the Committee.
