At the invitation of FIS, TV producers and experts representing the main Central European and Nordic broadcasters, along with FIS timing and data partner Swiss Timing, the European Broadcasting Union and Infront Sports & Media, gathered in Zurich (SUI) for the FIS World Cup Broadcaster Meeting on Thursday and Friday 4th-5th May 2017.
The conference, which was expanded to include two half-day sessions, included updates from the Race Directors of the Olympic FIS disciplines who each provided a review of the 2016/17 season in addition to a look ahead to any foreseen changes for the upcoming season. The European Broadcasting Union and Infront Sports & Media, as rights holders for FIS World Cup competitions, also gave reports from the past season.
The first day also featured an exchange of ideas on how to best optimise the broadcasting of FIS events, including presentation, TV times and using digital platforms more efficiently.
The highlight of the meeting on the second day was the calendar planning for the upcoming 2017/18 season where the various broadcasters were able to give input on ideal broadcast times for next season’s races to avoid potential conflicts with other television obligations.
The 2016/17 season calendars for all six FIS disciplines will be finalised and approved at the upcoming FIS Technical Meetings and ensuing Council meeting in Portoroz (SLO) which will take place from 24th-28th May.
