Club 5, the union of leading FIS Alpine Ski World Cup Organisers, held a workshop on 23rd May 2017 in conjunction with the FIS Calendar Conference in Portoroz (SLO).
With the goal to exchange ideas and discuss important topics related to the organisation of future World Cup events, special focus was put on the topics of costs of manpower, internet connection at World Cup venues, course preparation and how to keep a local touch, while maintaining World Cup standards.
One of the highlights was a presentation by Hans Peter Steinacher, Director Red Bull Youth America's Cup, who talked about the evolution of the event to become more attractive, which provided the group a great opportunity to learn from other sports.
The workshop was attended by over 50 members of the Organising Committees along with the FIS Alpine World Cup staff.
The 16 members of Club 5 are: Kitzbühel, Schladming (both AUT), Adelboden, Wengen, St.Moritz (all SUI), Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GER), Val d’Isère (FRA), Val Gardena Gröden, Alta Badia, Cortina d’Ampezzo (all ITA), Kranjska Gora, Maribor (both SLO), Lake Louise (CAN), Kvitfjell (NOR), Are (SWE), Zagreb (CRO). Crans-Montana (SUI) was also present as an affiliated member.
