What began ten years ago as an experiment developed into a successful story: snowfarming in Davos. Thanks to snow stored over the summer, a four-kilometer long cross-country ski course has been prepares already at the end of October.
20,000 m2 of snow was transported on the course and covered the distance of 4 km. "We are one of the pioneers in snowfarming. We have ten years of experience, "says Norbert Gruber, head of Davos' factory plant.
Early training possibility for top and amateur skiers
"In addition to the Swiss national team, national teams from Germany, Italy and France have already registered for training, " Gruber explains. But not only the top professionals benefit from the early training possibilities in Davos: For the general public the course is open around noon and in the evening.
"The snow is produced in the coldest winter months, when the energy expenditure is the least. This makes our facilities twice as efficient as those that now stand at temperatures above freezing, " Gruber reveals. Or in other words: Snowfarming in Davos is not only important for cross-country skiers, but also ecologically sensible. A ten-year success story.
