The Ski Association of Kazakhstan recently held its first coaches’ seminar in the city of Almaty. With the support of Olympic Solidarity, close to 50 Alpine Skiing coaches participated in daily workshops and seminars, led by former Swiss Alpine athlete Bruno Kernen.
The four-day programme focused on improving knowledge in areas including alpine rules and regulations, course setting in slalom, giant slalom and super-G, mental training, physical training and structuring training sessions.
In theoretical workshops in the meeting room and practical sessions on the hill, participants were given valuable input for their work with athletes of various age groups.
Bruno Kernen commented: “It was a very fruitful seminar and especially great to see the positive development of the participating coaches over the course of the week. They were very motivated and eager to learn. I am hoping that the aim of building a ski academy can be realised in Kazakhstan in order to have a structured framework in place to develop young athletes.”
