FIS Freestyle Junior Worlds crown first medallists in Valmalenco

The best junior athletes had their first day of competition at the FIS Freestyle Junior World Ski Championships in Chiesa/Valmalenco (ITA) on 4th April 2017, with Trudy Mickel and Jack Kariotis (both USA) taking gold in moguls.

The aerials event on the same day was won by Liubov Nikitina (RUS) and Dzmitry Mazurkevich (BEL).

Today’ 5th April, Olivia Giaccio (USA) and Riku Voutilainen (FIN) took gold in the dual moguls competition.

Altogether, over 440 athletes from 26 nations are currently in Chiesa/Valmalenco. It is the fifth time the Organisers have hosted the event for the world’s best junior athletes.

Before the final two events, Team USA is leading the Marc Hodler standings as the standout nation combining all 2017 Junior World Championship events, including the recent halfpipe competitions in Crans Montana (SUI), with 110 points over Russia (70) and Canada (38).

The Championships will conclude with slopestyle and ski cross competitions on 6th and 7th April, respectively.
