The ESPYs (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly) announced the 2017 nominees for all of their categories last week and there are four FIS athletes on the list in the categories of best male and female action sports athletes.
Among the male nominees are Freeskier Oystein Braten (NOR) and Snowboarder Mark McMorris (CAN). Braten took home the X Games gold medal in slopestyle last winter (read more here) while McMorris overcame a catalogue of injuries to win the crystal globes for Freestyle overall and big air the past FIS Snowboard World Cup season along with three X Games medals (read more here).
In the female category, Anna Gasser (AUT) and Kelly Sildaru (EST) are among the nominees. Gasser took gold in big air at the FIS Snowboard World Championships in Sierra Nevada (ESP) along with the crystal globe in big air in the 2016/17 FIS Snowboard World Cup season and three X Games medals (read more here).
At only 15, freeskier Sildaru earned both FIS Junior World Championship and X Games success. She became the youngest gold medallist at a Winter X Games when she won slopestyle gold in Aspen in 2016 as a 13-year-old. She repeated the feat this January at the American venue, as well as winning a silver medal in the big air competition.
The Awards will be presented on 12th July 2017 in Los Angeles (USA).
