Last week, FIS Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard Race Directors held an inspection in Genting Secret Garden, Thaiwoo Resort and Beijing's Shoungang Industrial Park.
Joseph Fitzgerald, Uwe Beier, Roberto Moresi, Martin Fiala and marketing expert Andrew Hourmont were in attendance. Meetings were held with the Beijing 2022 Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (BOCOG), the Local Organising Committee for the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships Zhangjiakou 2021, the Chinese Ski Association, and the Organisers of a series of World Cups to be held in the Chongli / Zhangjiakou area and Beijing.
In addition to discussing key areas of planning and organisation, the FIS staff worked to determine the course lines and final design for the Olympic courses. They were assisted by Ecosign Mountain Resort Planners, which will turn the concepts and ideas into detailed construction plans.
The location for the Olympic Big Air venue was also reviewed in the Shouganag Park in the southwest part of Beijing, where the BOCOG offices have now relocated. Meetings were held about the location of the purpose-built ramp, a first-ever in the new Olympic event of Big Air. In addition, meetings were held with the BOCOG sport department to review the development plans for the test competitions, leading into the 2022 Games.
