From 12th-14th October 2017, FIS and FIS Travel Service together with the World Championship Candidates 2022/23 carried out its customary “six months prior to Congress” inspection to Costa Navarino (GRE) and Westin Resort in Costa Navarino, where the FIS Congress will take place from 13th-19th May 2018.
The delegations from Vikersund (NOR), Planica (SLO), Trondheim (NOR), Courchevel-Méribel (FRA) and Saalbach (AUT) together with FIS Travel and FIS representatives were warmly welcomed by the Costa Navarino management and convention staff together with representatives of the Hellenic Winter Sports Association.
During the following two days a packed programme involved a reconnaissance tour of the expansive resort and thorough inspection of the “House of Events” to finalise the set-up of the World Championship Candidate Exhibition. Located very close to all the Committee Meetings the Candidates will showcase their concepts to all Congress participants from 14th-16th May 2018 from their stands and offer them their local speciality refreshments as has become a welcome tradition.
Another key element during the preparation visit to Costa Navarino was the official meeting with FIS and the Candidates to address the process until the election including promotional activities and the details regarding the presentation to the FIS Council on 15th May. The announcement of the elected Organisers will take place on 17th May.
“The participants at the 51st FIS Congress in Greece can look forward to a very well organised event by the professional Costa Navarino team, with excellent conditions for the numerous meetings in a lovely area. The Candidates have completely embraced all procedures in place to both promote the FIS World Championships and ensure fair play”, commented FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis.
