Nordic Combined

The German dominance continued in the last two Nordic Combined events, with a full podium sweep in the large hill individual event and the gold medal in the team event. Team Norway finally took home a medal with team silver, and team Austria collected another bronze next to Lukas Klapfer’s success in the normal hill individual.

Biggest surprise

With a different season thus far by their high standards, nobody would have guessed Johannes Rydzek, Fabian Riessle and Eric Frenzel would repeat what was a common feature in the 2016/17 FIS Nordic Combined World Cup season presented by Viessmann: a German podium sweep.

Records

Not only did the German team collect all available gold medals with Eric Frenzel’s and Johannes Rydzek’s individual and the Team Event victory, their full medal sweep in the large hill individual event is the first time since 1936 that one team took the full podium in an Olympic Nordic Combined competition.
