Snow in Greece

Last week, a cold spell swept Greece and covered the capital city of Athens including its ancient monuments, and many of the Greek islands, in snow. From the mainland to the islands, there were some spectacular images that were captured in areas that are not accustomed to receiving snow.

Quebec City to host FIS Cross-Country World Cup Finals

The 2017 FIS Cross-Country World Cup Final presented by Viessmann will take place from 17th-19th March 2017 in Quebec City (CAN) featuring a three-day event with one sprint and two distance races.

Four National Ski Associations expressed interest in taking over the upcoming World Cup Final and FIS would like to express its gratitude for their commitment to Cross-Country Skiing in taking over the World Cup Final.

Road to Sierra Nevada 2017 TV series

Organisers of the 2017 FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships in collaboration with Sierra Nevada TV have launched the “Road to #SN2017” television series. The first series showcases the Spanish snowboard cross team training on the slopes of Sierra Nevada. Stay tuned to YouTube for further releases.

Documentary about Bernhard Russi

Swiss Alpine legend and Chairman of the FIS Alpine Committee, Bernhard Russi, premiered in a documentary last week in Wengen (SUI) before the Lauberhorn races. The documentary showcases his life including the ups and downs of being an elite athlete and the most difficult moments of his personal life. The premiere took place with many special guests including ski legends Jean-Claude Killy, Franz Klammer, Crazy Canucks Ken Read, Steve Podborski and Dave Murray, Roland Collombin, Bruno Kernen, former Federal Council of Switzerland Adolf Ogi, FIS President Gian Franco Kapser and Secretary General Sarah Lewis.

Svindal and Ligety sidelined for rest of the season

Just weeks ahead of this season’s highlight, the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in St. Moritz (SUI), two of the sport’s superstars have announced that they will both undergo season-ending surgery. Aksel Lund Svindal (NOR) had his meniscus repaired Tuesday morning after several weeks of chronic knee pain and Ted Ligety (USA) will receive a microdiscectomy in order to alleviate nerve pain in his left leg.
