Interview with Speed Skiing record holder Simone Origone

Speed Skiing ace Simone Origone (ITA) has secured the crystal globe nine times and collected five World Championships gold medals over the last 13 years.

The FISI athlete from the Aosta Valley has combined his sport with a career as a mountain guide and ski instructor.

FIS took the opportunity to interview the stand-out athlete as he prepares for his next highlight event, the FIS Speed Skiing World Championships in Idre (SWE) from 24th-26th March 2017.

Team physicians unite for common goal of healthy skiers

Team physicians from the teams participating at the 2017 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships,, gathered on invitation of Dr Maarit Valtonen (FIN) from the Finnish Ski Association for a Medical Seminar on 27th February at Lahti Ski Museum.

Participants from nine nations listened to presentations by Professor Kjell Larsson (SWE) from the Karolinska Institute on respiratory symptoms in Cross-Country Skiing, and Dr Katja Mjösund (FIN) from the University of Turku on how to enhance the respiratory health of athletes in Cross-Country Skiing.

FIS Medical Committee Members Jenny Shute (GBR) and Eero Hyvärinen (FIN) summarised: “The lectures were very well received and facilitated a platform for discussions of current issues amongst the team physicians. It was great to see that participants were ready to share their expertise and to strengthen their cooperation on the international level."

FIS brings family to the snow

The 2017 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in St. Moritz (SUI) have left lasting memories for many persons. For one lucky family they were unforgettable. Earlier in January FIS, the Local Organising Committee together with Eurosport and Swiss Airlines, held an online contest that provided one family with the opportunity to attend the event. Rob Foster (36), a secondary school sport teacher from Queensferry (North Wales) was the lucky winner. Read more about his trip to St. Moritz together with his three children.

President Xi highlights green, open and clean Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022

China’s President Xi Jinping visited some of the key venues for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 during a two-day inspection tour to check on progress of the preparations for the Games in the nation’s capital.

He also presided over a symposium on city planning and the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, where Guo Jinlong, President of the Beijing 2022 Organising Committee, and Gou Zhongwen, Director of the State General Administration of Sports, presented updates on the preparations. In his remarks to the symposium, President Xi said that the preparation work should embody the spirit of green, open and shared development, along with fairness and honesty. Emphasising zero tolerance on doping and corruption, he said: “We should make the Olympic Winter Games as pure and clean as snow and ice."
