According to a recent report by Patrick Thorne, TheSnowHunter, snow has fallen on five continents in a one week period.
Ski areas in the Alps reported up to 20cm of fresh snow in 24 hours on the weekend of 7th-8th October - around 15 glacier ski areas are already open and have great conditions.
20cm was also reported at Mt Hutt in New Zealand last week leading to a highly unusual (for so late in the season) closure due to avalanche danger.
Several New Zealand ski areas have extended their seasons thanks to all the snow there. Sunday, 8th October, was the last day of the (also extended) winter in Australia though.
Most ski areas in the southern hemisphere have now ended their 2017 ski seasons but Catedral in Argentina also reported 5cm of fresh snow last weekend.
Heavy snowfall has also been reported on Mt Yotei in Japan, the stunning volcano across the slopes from Niseko.
In North America snowfall began in the West of the continent on 7th October and continued through that weekend.
