Last weekend marked the start for summer skiing and boarding on glaciers in Europe.
The Moelltal Glacier (AUT) re-opened for its long season through to next spring and the two other major summer ski areas in France at Les 2 Apes and Tignes opened for their summer seasons last weekend. Meanwhile, Cervinia (ITA) re-opened for glacier skiing, opening up cross-border summer skiing to Zermatt (SUI).

The off-season does not only mean training camps for FIS athletes but it is also a time when they spend more time with friends and family.

Right to Play Charity Golf Tournament raises CHF 85,000
As one of the many activities and events held by FIS charity partner Right to Play to help children from some of the world’s most disadvantaged communities, a golf tournament was staged last Friday in Lottstetten. The charity event raised a total donation of CHF 85,000.
The many players that came to the golf course supported the charitable cause and got to compete with a number of prominent participants including former skiers Marco Büchel and Andreas Wenzel.
The funds raised through the event will benefit Right to Play’s development projects to help children build essential life skills and better futures through sports.
Ricci Bitti hands over Presidency of SportAccord Convention to Baumann
Last week, Francesco Ricci Bitti stepped down as President of SportAccord Convention, handing over the reins to Patrick Baumann. Baumann is President of the Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF), the umbrella body formerly known as SportAccord before it was renamed in April 2017. FIS President Gian Franco Kasper is a member of the GAISF Council and Sarah Lewis, Secretary General represents the International Winter Sports Federations in the SportAccord Convention Steering Group.
