With the countdown clock ticking towards the start of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang (KOR), FIS in collaboration with the Olympic Channel relives the most memorable moments from the past Games in Sochi (RUS).
Sage Kotsenburg (USA) wrote history in Sochi by becoming the first ever Olympic Champion in snowboard slopestyle which celebrated its Olympic debut.
The then 20-year old was a surprise champion, taking gold after going into his first Olympics with a goal to “make snowboarding look cool”. Kotsenburg would have been content with just making it to the finals. As the only American in the finals, he managed to pull off a series of tricks which set the bar too high for the rest of the field.
The podium was rounded out by Stale Sandbech (NOR) and Mark McMorris (CAN) in second and third place respectively.
