Speed Skiing: Valentina Greggio secures World Cup title with two competitions left

Reigning world champion Valentina Greggio won both World Cup competitions In Idre Fjäll Sweden to secure the Crystal Globe in Speed Skiing for the 4th time in her career. The 27 year old Italian from Verbania dominated the season by winning every competition. France’s Celia Martinez, who will finish in runner up position in the overall standings, led after several semi-final runs this season but saw Valentina pass her in each final.

Who will take home the men’s Crystal Globe will be decided between Austrian Manuel Kramer and the Italian Simone Origone this coming weekend at the World Cup Final in Grandvalira Andorra. Both athletes have been involved in close fighting all season as they are separated over the season by mere centimetres. Both men have a points tally of 780 and both had to overcome equipment failure during final runs. Manuel Kramer ripped his suit just before the start of a final run in Sun Peaks Canada and Simone Origone's suit got damaged during a final run in Idre Fjäll. Were Simone to decide the season in his favour, it would give him an unprecedented 10th Crystal Globe. For the former Alpine Junior World Champion Manuel Kramer it would be his first.
