For the 2017 edition of World Snow Day, FIS introduced the World Snow Day Awards. The Awards are designed to recognise the best World Snow Day events and actions. The Awards include four categories to enable a wide variety of Organisers and events to participate. The four categories and their winners are as follows:
Best World Snow Day: Recognises events which have gone above and beyond the call of duty.
Winner: World Snow Day Zakopane (POL) by The City of Zakopane
Prize: CHF 10‘000
Best Small World Snow Day: Recognises events with under 500 participants
Winner: World Snow Day Vallesen (DEN) by the Danish Ski Association
Prize: CHF 2‘000
Most Creative: Recognises the most creative and innovative World Snow Day actions.
Winner: World Snow Day Zagreb (CRO) by Ski and Snowboard Klub Maksimir
Prize: Camera Crew to film their next World Snow Day
Line Honors: The first event to register for World Snow Day 2017
Winner: World Snow Day Oberstdorf (GER) by Skisport- und Veranstaltungs GmbH
Prize: CHF 1‘000
Judging of the Awards was carried out by the World Snow Day team. FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis commented: “We had 87 nominations submitted and the level was very high. The excellent activities carried out by the Organisers made judging difficult and at the end the winners were separated by only a few points.”
FIS has been very pleased with the Awards and “whilst the Awards are an excellent aspect of the programme, the real reward is the children that are brought to the locations of the events” said FIS President Gian Franco Kasper.
The World Snow Day Awards are a bi-annual event and the next edition will take place for World Snow Day 2019.
