Kyle Bratrud and Jessie Diggins (USA) ruled the first day of cross-country racing at Snow Farm in the FIS Australia New Zealand Cup Freestyle interval start race.
It was a strong showing for the American ladies, taking the top five spots. The Pyeong Chang 2018 gold medallist in Team Sprint, Jessie Diggins won by 10 seconds over her teammate Sophie Caldwell. Finishing the top three was Caitlin Patterson.
Kaichi Naruse (JPN) came a close second in the men’s race taking only 28 minutes and nine seconds to finish the 10 km course, 21 seconds behind the leader with American Ben Lustgarten in third by a mere two seconds.
Team USA continued to rule also over the second day that featured sprint races. Kevin Bolger and Sophie Caldwell were the winners with Caldwell taking top spot for the free technique sprints for the second year running at the Audi quattro Winter Games NZ. Her teammate Ida Sargent repeated last year’s second place performance as well.
Kevin Bolger made his Audi quattro Winter Games podium debut, while his teammate Ben Saxton came in second with Tomoki Sato (JPN) joining the Americans on the podium taking third place.
The final day of Cross-Country action at Snow Farm is schedule for Thursday with the mass start in classic technique on the programme.
