From 9th January through 22nd January 2020, the city of Lausanne will be hosting the 3rd Winter Youth Olympic Games. For the first time in Olympic history, two countries will be collaborating to make the YOG Lausanne 2020 happen. An innovative concept of working together to put the spotlight on two complementary territories. Two of the FIS disciplines, Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined, will place at Les Tuffes in France and start on 17th January through the 22nd.

Well known on a national level with its proximity to the CNSNMM (National Centre for Nordic skiing and Middle Mountain sports) training centre; the Nordic stadium Les Tuffes (FRA) is a venue that provides quality training facilities in the different Nordic disciplines year-round.

The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) 2020 were the trigger component of transformation of the Nordic stadium Les Tuffes and Station des Rousses. Today, the renovated installations meet the highest standards in four disciplines, offering an exceptional diversity in Nordic disciplines in a unique venue, a rarity anywhere in Europe.

A refurbished jumping hill
A large-scale makeover of the new 90-meter hill has been finished including; a cooled in-run track, a new coach platform, a new warming cabin at the base of the in-run and as well as a face-lift to the judge’s tower. Equipment assuring the use of the infrastructures year-round was an important priority. The hill was inaugurated with a FIS Women’s Ski Jumping World Cup in December 2018.

A new ski stadium and longer tracks
The ski stadium has been expanded and modernised to include a new electronic shooting range for biathlon and three kilometres of paved ski tracks are now available with longer tracks covered in snow in winter. The use of « snow farming » over the past couple of years underlines the venue’s credibility as a reference venue capable of welcoming and organising important International events, even in the beginning of the winter season.

150 students from the Highschool specialising in woodworking in Mouchard (Jura) built ten wood-frame chalets that will welcome the different teams during the competitions for both changing and waxing purposes.

YOG values spoken by the French Ambassadors
Two French athletes are presently committed to the Lausanne 2020 to promote the upcoming YOG to the general public. Local hero and Nordic Combined superstar and Olympic Champion Jason Lamy-Chappuis and Laetitia Roux, veritable emblem in women’s ski mountaineering. Alongside the 10 other Lausanne 2020 ambassadors, they will share their experiences through different initiatives connected to youth and the promotion of sports.
