Despite this edition being smaller in size, the Landgraaf Fall Camp from 12th -17th October 2020 provided an amazing week with the four nations able to attend. Young athletes from Greece, Hungary, Lithuania and Macedonia, together with their coaches followed a program filled with on and off snow activities and the smaller group made friendships possible from day 1.
The FIS COVID 19 protocols, together with local measures taken, provided a safe environment for the teams to pursue their passion.
"SnowWorld Landgraaf provides very good training conditions for the early season", said camp Coordinator Martin Oostdijk. "The professional park’s constant conditions give the opportunity to train on snow twice a day, with an easy lunch break in between. The run is not very long, but highly effective with a dedicated park lift. The athletes were able to do around 12 runs per hour. On the last day, even an evening session was on the program."
To practice jumps safely, a trip to the nearby Jump Bag in Genk was planned as well. All of the athletes improved their jumping skills and did new tricks. Some of them were even able to perform them the next day on snow. Another useful and fun part was the traditional visit to the trampoline park. The attendants trained with a jumping board and performed their tricks on all of the trampolines provided.
Skateboarding, intensive physical training in the gym and a specific plyometric jump training ending with some impressive kickboxing are also becoming a steady part of the camp. The exercises given by the physical trainer of the local first division football club and of a small group of COC snowboard athletes provided some very useful information for the teams to take home.
Information was also shared through a series of workshops on how to plan a season, how and why physical training should be used and what a trainer can do to best fulfil the needs of the athletes.
Both, the attending teams and the Camp staff look back on a successful week, where new and lasting friendships were made, and enthusiasm and skills were brought to a higher level.
