Three and a half years after his crash in the final event of the Four-Hills-Tournament in Bischofshofen, Nick Fairall (USA) is now embarking on a second career in sports.
The New Hampshire native fell in the qualification for the competition in Bischofshofen early January 2015, sustained a serious back injury and lost the use of his legs. A year later he returned to the Four-Hills-Tournament and spoke about the day of the crash and what followed.
“Six months after my injury I water skied for the first time. Getting behind the boat, feeling the speed, just carving through the water was super nice”, said the 29-year-old, who was recently competing in the US water skiing nationals.
“Life tends to throw curve balls at you. Water skiing has been an awesome fun thing for me to do with that and it’s given me that time to get in the water and get in the sun, put smiles on my faces and see smiles on everyone else’s faces", Nick Fairall said in an interview with WPSD Local 6 television channel.
Together with eleven other athletes, Nick Fairall was recently named to the USA Adaptive Water Ski Team for the World Championships in July 2019 in Norway.
